Introduction
China signed an accord with the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the 10th ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, Laos held on 29th and 30th November 2004. According to the agreement, China and ASEAN resolved to remove all trade tariffs on manufactured goods and farm produce by 2010 and to achieve closer cooperation in services such as transportation, information, technology and tourism.

The tariff cuts, which begin in 2005, will help create the world's largest free trade area covering 11 nations with a population of 2 billion people. It will draw ASEAN's combined economies worth $1 trillion closer to China's $1.4 trillion economy.
